Two persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old villager from Sahapur taluka here, police said today.

Thane: Two persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old villager from Sahapur taluka here, police said today. The murder came to light after the body of the victim identified as Akshay Balu Dalvi was found dumped near a bridge in Mokhadane village on May 7, prompting the police to launch a manhunt for the assailants, who were arrested yesterday, they said.

After the murder, Kasara police, under Thane district Rural Police had registered a case under sections 302 and 201 of the IPC. Meanwhile, officials of the Thane Crime Branch spotted two persons moving in a suspicious manner at the Mumbra railway station recently and apprehended them.

The duo--Imran Shartaj Shaikh, 27 and Nafiz Ahmed Shaikh, 28-- was picked up based on the footage obtained from the scene of the offence, police said. After interrogation, they were placed under arrest. Both the accused have been handed over to Kasara police which registered the offence, said PI Ranvir Bais of Thane Crime branch. The motive behind the killing is still not known, police added.
