Hyderabad: The Marketing Intelligence Team of Cyber Crimes, Central Crime Station (CCS) has arrested an online fraudster, who had cheated people by publishing fake government tender notice in a leading news papers and websites.

According to police, the accused Amjed Sohail Ahmed (44), businessman and resident of New Delhi would post tender notices on online through websites tender247.com and tendersinfo.com on the pretext of Central government tender notices.

On noticing the above tenders, if anyone contacts regarding the tenders, the accused communicates with them over phone and asks them to transfer the money as EMD (Earnest Money Deposit) to bank accounts and through RTGS (online transactions). Later, he would avoid them from further communication. “In the same way the accused had cheated many people by collecting money dishonestly,” said CCS DCP Avinash Mohanty.

After the police received complaint from a Hyderabad resident, T Srinivas Raghu, Executive Director of AP Productivity Council (Banjara Hills) on July 15, the Detective Department began investigation. The accused had trapped the victim by publishing an advertisement in a website and a leading national daily.

Believing his claims that he had a government contract, the victim transferred an amount of Rs 1 lakh as an EMD to different bank accounts. Later, the victim also transferred Rs 1 lakh and Rs 4.4 lakh through RTGS. The bank officials later informed that the transactions were suspicious and asked the victim to register a complaint with the police.

During investigation, it came to light that the accused Amjed was already arrested by Gujarat police in some other case. After obtaining PT warrant, the State police brought the accused Amjed to Hyderabad and produced before the Court for Judicial Custody. He was booked under sections 66(C) (D) ITA Act’ 2008 and Sec 419, 420 IPC, for cheating people, by posting online advertisements in the guise of government advertisements.
