Miryalaguda police arrested five members of a notorious criminal gang of Guntur of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh when they were found exchanging counterfeit notes by purchasing goods at various shops in the town. Police seized Rs 1,97,600 worth fake notes from their possession.

Nalgonda: Miryalaguda police arrested five members of a notorious criminal gang of Guntur of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh when they were found exchanging counterfeit notes by purchasing goods at various shops in the town. Police seized Rs 1,97,600 worth fake notes from their possession.

The arrested were identified as Thanasuri Janakiramaiah, Kotam Sai Sri, Pabbathi Murali, Darshanapu Ashok and Ch Madhu Venkata Naga Swamy.

Another two persons, Karnati Mallaiah of Miryalaguda and Ramu of Kurnool district, who have links with the arrested gang, were still at large.

Reacting on a tip off of a trader, the Mirylaguda rural police detained the gang members near Venkatradripalem and seized the counterfirt money.

Presenting the arrested members before the media at District Police Office on Wednesday, SP Srinivas Rao explained their modus operandi. He informed that special search teams were constituted to apprehend the remaining gang members.
