Visakhapatnam: The Anti-corruption wing of CBI trapped B Jagadeesh, senior tax assistant, Income Tax Office, MVP Colony in the city while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 30,000 from a person for closing the complaint received against his wife.
The complainant alleged that the tax assistant Siva Sankar Nayak issued a notice to his wife directing her to file income tax returns for the year 2013-14 by September 26.

On September 21, Jagadeesh contacted the complainant and informed that they received complaint against his wife alleging that she possessed several properties. He asked the complainant to meet him at Income Tax Office, MVP Colony before September 26. When the complainant informed Jagadeesh that he received notice from Income Tax Office, Sankara Mutt Road, Visakhapatnam, he informed the complainant that they have offices at both the places and the complainant should go to MVP Colony Office.

When the complainant met Jagadeesh, he demanded Rs 50,000 as bribe and said that Siva Sankar Nayak would close the complaint. Finally, Jagadeeshwara Rao settled down for Rs 30,000 and asked the complainant to pay the amount by September 27. As the complainant was not willing to pay the bribe amount, he lodged a complaint with CBI.

On receipt of the complaint, an FIR was registered and Jagadeesh was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 30,000 from the complainant at Income Tax Office, first floor of MVP Colony office. After registration of the case, searches were conducted at the residential and office premises of both the accused. During search several incriminating documents were seized. Jagadeesh was produced before the judge for CBI cases, Visakhapatnam on Thursday and sent to remand.
