Hyderabad: A 26-year-old married woman was attacked with a sickle by a love maniac during brought day light at Erragadda Rythu Bazar on Monday. The victim received serious injuries and is in critical condition and the man was handed over to police after being thrashed.

The accused, Ravi (23) and Shravanthi (26) were neighbours in Subhashnagar in Sanathnagar. However, the man developed affection towards the woman who was older than him. Recently, the woman got married to another man Yadagiri, a resident of Hayathnagar, but the accused continued to stalk the woman, whenever she visited her parent’s residence in Subhashnagar because of which they had to shift to another location in the same locality.

Even though Shravanthi warned him to stop stalking her, he continued and followed her to Erragadda Rythu Bazar on Monday. Ravi approached her in a friendly manner, but an argument broke between the two, while they were close to a coconut cart.

Ravi picked up the sickle (used to chop the coconut skin) and attacked her indiscriminately all over her body. She also sustained head injury and was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment, but her condition remained serious.

Speaking to The Hans India, Md Waheeduddin, Inspector said the accused was arrested under section 307 (attempt to murder) for attacking the woman.
