Four Gandhi Hospital staffers land behind bars for sexual harassment

Hyderabad: The police arrested four lab technicians of Gandhi Hospital on charges of sexually harassing their trainees. The complaint was registered against the accused in August, which was followed up by investigation and their arrests by Chilkalguda police.

According to police, the trainees who were deputed for the lab training submitted a representation to the Superintendent of Gandhi Hospital alleging that they were sexually harassed by four lab technicians working for Gandhi Hospital. During the month of August this year, they levelled allegations against these lab technicians. Following the complaint, an enquiry committee was constituted which consisted of Professors and HODs of the Gandhi Hospital.

The panel conducted enquiry and also submitted report in the month of September. They found that the allegations levelled against the four lab technicians to be genuine. The four lab technicians were identified as Md Akram (47), resident of Retigalli, Golconda Fort, Thambi Anthony Sebastian (53), resident of Keshav Nagar colony, Mettuguda, Secunderabad, Jannu Madhu Babu (30), a native of Geesugonda in Warangal district and Mandalam Durga Das (36) resident of Ramnagar in city.

“During the course of investigation about 14 witnesses were examined and prima facie case against the accused employees of Gandhi Hospital was established,” said B Sumathi Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Zone. A case under sections 354, 354-A, 354-D, 506, 509 r/w 34 IPC had been registered and the four accused persons have been arrested on December 2 and sent to remand.
