Rajamahendravaram: The urban police arrested five persons for unauthorisedly storing drugs and seized drugs worth Rs 3 lakh such as injections Tejowin, Phensedyl, Fortwin and syrups.
The police also seized five mobile phones and a cash of Rs 3,000 during a raid at a house near Vijaya theatre here on Friday. Disclosing the details in a press conference held at police guest house here on Saturday, Urban Superintendent of Police B Raja Kumari said the gang is getting drugs from Allagadda, Narsaraopeta, Ravulapalem and Rajamahendravaram.
The police arrested Bacchu Veera Venkata Subba Rao (pharmacist) of Ravulapalem, Rangisetti Ramesh and Pothuganti Kishore Kumar (medical salesmen) of Narsaraopeta, Amuloju Krishnaiah and Elimisetti Durga Rao of Rajamahendravaram and police are searching for another accused Sekhar of Allagadda, who was at large.
Two cases were pending against pharmacist Durga Rao of Ravulapalem in this regard. Meanwhile, Amuloju Krishnaiah stored the stocks in huge quantity in his house. All the drugs seized can only be sold on doctor's prescriptions. The police are investigating how Sekhar of Allagadda was getting the drugs.
Cases were registered against them under various sections of Drugs and Cosmetics Act. When the police produced them in the court, it remanded them to 14 days custody.
Central Zone Deputy Superintendent of Police J Kula Sekhar, Special Branch DSP B Rama Krishna, I Town inspector M Ravindra, anti-goonda squad sub-inspector Rambabu and their team arrested the accused.
