Hyderabad: The Gopalapuram police on Tuesday arrested six persons who allegedly murdered a history-sheeter near Rathifile bus stand on Sunday. The CCTV footage helped the police crack the case.

The accused were identified as K Mallesh (28) Hathagali Narshimha (25), Hathagali Amar (19), Vijaya Lakshmi (45) Shiva Kumar (28) and Subash Biridar (38).

The deceased, Syed Fareed (26), a resident of Manikeshwar Nagar, was hacked to death by unidentified gang comprising of about six people on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Locals found his dead body on Sunday morning near a construction site. They informed his younger brother Syed Hameed, who lodged a complaint with Gopalapuram police station. Hameed raised suspicion on Narshimha, who was also arrested on Tuesday.

The police seized an iron rod, knives and chilli powder from the crime site and collected CCTV footage to solve the case. “The accused hatched a plan to eliminate Fareed due to earlier enmity. On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, the accused reached the location with rods, sticks and chilli powder. They used chilli powder to blind the victim.

While Shiva diverted the attention of Fareed, others attacked him,” said Ch Saidulu, Sub-Inspector, Gopalapuram. The victim recently underwent treatment at Institute of Mental Health to get him rid of alcohol addiction, police said.

The police produced the accused before the court and sent them to judicial remand. Meanwhile, four others, including two juveniles were still at large in this case, police said.
