Karimnagar: Huzurabad police arrested two inter-district motorcycle thieves and recovered 16 stolen two wheelers from them, Commissioner of Police VB Kamalasan Reddy said, speaking to media persons here on Monday.

The accused has been identified as Gajjivelli Sammaiah (38) of Rajapally village and Mothe Kiran (32) of Rangapur village under Huzurabad mandal.

Sammaiah, who worked as a painter, picked up bad habits after the death of his wife. To make quick money, he started stealing bikes for the last three years. He used to sell them with the help of his friend Kiran, who also habituated to liquor consumption. Kiran was given a commission of Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 for selling each vehicle.

The police said that the duo has so far committed 24 thefts in Karimnagar, Warangal Urban, Yadadri-Bhongir and Janagaon districts. The police, who got a tip-off that the duo was selling motorbikes at throw away prices, arrested them near Sirsapally cross road on the suburbs of Huzurabad.

The CP commended Huzurabad Inspector P Damodar Reddy, Sub-inspector M Chandrasekhar, AS-I Crime G Ashok Reddy and other who took part in the raid. The CP appealed to people not to purchase vehicles without verifying the documents properly.
