Hyderabad: City police on Tuesday busted a burglary gang of 12 persons and recovered Rs 2 crore worth property. Women members of the burglars’ families are amongst those arrested for helping to convert the booty into immovable property.

According to police, after committing the offence they look out for CCTV cameras and damage them and they also destroy the DVR to avoid being caught. The accused Md Saddam Ali alias Imran Ali, (23), welder and Moka Potharaju, (22), labourer took up the crime since their teenage and habituated to committing house burglaries since 2010. The duo made this a family business as their family members backed their deeds.

Their modus operandi involved breaking the locks of the house and gaining entry from rear doors and windows. Ironically, their family members helped in concealing property, as legitimate and later they dispose. Through the ill-gotten money the gang members bought flats in Safilguda, Malkajgiri and other places. After their arrests, the accused confessed to have committed 34 house burglaries reported in the limits of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda Commissionerate from 2015, accounting to loss of property worth Rs 2 lakh.

Those who were arrested include receivers of jewellery, friends and family members who provided shelter, besides the family members including females who collaborated with Saddam and Potharaju in disposing of the booty. The property which was recovered by police include 5 kg gold ornaments, 12.5 kg silver articles, Rs 7.16 lakh cash and other items, besides seizing of flats they bought.
