Hyderabad: CIE@IIIT-Hyderabad launched Ojas MedTech Bio-NEST to nurture start-ups building technology-enabled healthcare solutions. It is supported by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) and Government of Telangana.
Jayesh Ranjan, Secretary, Information Technology (IT), Government of Telangana inaugurated the facility at CIE@IIITH in the presence of Dr. Manish Diwan, Head, Strategy Partnership and Entrepreneurship Development, BIRAC.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof P J Narayanan, Director, IIITH said, “Healthcare and wellness are very important areas for IIITH’s research vision and social impact. Ojas can play a critical role in taking our research and expertise in the labs to the society through startups. IIITH is excited about the future potential of this area.”
CIE@IIITH, now the largest academic incubator, has incubated over 300 startups over the past 11 years. Furthering that successful trajectory, Ojas MedTech Bio-NEST is expected to incubate up to 30 startups a year and significantly amplify CIE@IIITH’s recent endeavours around AI and other deep technologies. Ojas will incubate research-leveraged medtech startups focusing on disease prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and wellness.
Dr. Radha Rangarajan, Head, Innovation and Strategy at Ojas said, “Given the strengths of IIITH in deep tech areas such as computer vision, language technologies, signal processing and cognitive science, start-ups will find significant opportunities to collaborate and co-develop products with its faculty. In addition, the ecosystem of clinicians, life sciences researchers and investors associated with the Incubator, will enable faster product development.” Ojas has already onboarded 8 startups.
