Hyderabad: The District Institutes for Education and Training (DIET) Common Entrance Test will be held on June 15, across the state, even though the state will be bifurcated after June 2. Notification was released on Tuesday. The online application process would commence on May 6 and the last date to register for the exam will be May 18. The hall tickets can be downloaded from May 30.

The exam will be held in same mode of last year and the syllabus will also be the same, according to Surender Reddy, convener of DIET CET. Timing of the test will be 10:30 am to 12:30 pm on June 15. Results will be declared in July.DIET is a two-year diploma course in teacher training. The trained diploma holders can apply for the District Selection Committee (DSC) examinations, which will be held every year to fill up vacancies of thousands of teacher posts.

Since, there are more than 10,000 vacancies in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana districts; DIET CET is one of the most sought after exam.There are 723 DIET colleges in the state out of which 25 have been government-run institutions.

The private institutions have more than 36,900 seats whereas in government colleges, the number of seats is 3,100.“We will conduct the test and give ranks and if both the governments agree for common counselling, we will do it. Otherwise, separate counselling will be done,” Surender Reddy added.For the academic year 2014-15, the old system may continue, observers feel.Private DIET CET institutions will have to get renewed every year and a team of officers from primary education will have to go, inspect the colleges on infrastructure and faculty and submit a report to the government. Later, basing on the reports of the team, the renewal will be granted.But many colleges have been allegedly minting money without proper infrastructure and faculty. There have been complaints of bribing the officials.Students who passed Intermediate with 45 per cent marks can apply. The minimum age limit of the candidate should be 17 years and there is no upper age limit.
