The Junior Science Club is conducting a two-day annual science festival titled ‘Vigyanotsav 2015’ at the University of Hyderabad (UoH). The fest commenced on Friday. The inaugural session was chaired by Prof. E Hari Babu, Vice-Chancellor, UoH. Prof. Hari Babu emphasised the need for pushing the limits of science in the current scenario of our country.

Hyderabad: The Junior Science Club is conducting a two-day annual science festival titled ‘Vigyanotsav 2015’ at the University of Hyderabad (UoH). The fest commenced on Friday. The inaugural session was chaired by Prof. E Hari Babu, Vice-Chancellor, UoH. Prof. Hari Babu emphasised the need for pushing the limits of science in the current scenario of our country.

Students from various schools, colleges in Hyderabad and from UoH are participating in this two-day fest. The first event of Vigyanotsav was a scientific talk (Sci-Talk) delivered by Dr Syed Maqbool Ahmed, Principal Scientific Officer on the Indian Mars Orbital Mission (MOM). Children curiously asked him various questions about Mars and specific details of the mission one child was inquisitive to know what kind of battery is used when the rover does not receive sunlight?

The first day of the fest saw events like prelims of science quiz; debate competition; poster presentation; science fiction writing and elocution competition. Science documentaries and visits to scientific instrumentation labs at College for Integrated Studies, Centre for Nanotechnology and Central Instruments Laboratory were arranged for students in the fest.
