Advise is a verb: Recommending someone about something: He advised her to resign from the job and start her own company. The doctor advised him to quit smoking immediately. Please advise me whether I should study genetics or biotechnology?

Advisedly is an adverb, and advisory is an adjective meaning having the power to advise. The advisory of the Central government may or may not be followed by the state government in India. Many ministries and departments in the country have advisory committees! Is it right for a government to issue a health advisory on what to eat and what not to eat?

Adviser and Advisor are interchangeable words. Adviser is a British usage; advisor is the US. The adviser’s job is to give advice on a specific subject to whom he or she is accountable. Sanjaya Baru the journalist was the media advisor to Dr Manmohan Singh. It is not unusual in our society to come across him or her giving advice to someone on this and that. What is the best advice one can give? Better not advise others unless asked for an advice.
