With guidelines prepared by the government for the Union HRD ministry-pioneered Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN) mandate stating that only premier institutions such as NITs, IITs, IISERs, Central and state universities can participate in the programme, only half a dozen state universities from AP and Telangana make it to the eligibility.

In the first phase of eligibility, only ‘A’ grade accredited state varsities are eligible eliminating many universities from the Telugu States. With GIAN, not only will the courses be taught by foreign faculty for a limited period but also will be recorded and uploaded online.

Inviting the international faculty members to teach at Indian universities, GIAN was introduced by the Narendra Modi-led government and Prof. Manjul Bhargava who is the Fields Medal winner and an adjunct professor at the University of Hyderabad, became the first internationally-renowned faculty.

IITs, NITs, IIITs, IISc, IIEST, IISERs, IIMs, National Law Schools, Central and state universities have received the ‘A’ grade accreditation and will be considered as the approved institutions by GIAN. From the Telugu states – AP and Telangana, only Osmania University, Andhra University, Kakatiya University, JNTU-Hyderabad and SV University are the eligible institutions among the 34 state universities.

As the Central selection committee approves the hiring of an academician, international faculty will be invited by the institutions.
