Whatsapp, a messaging app owned by Facebook, is the most trending mobile application among the youth. And with the launch of the calling option, it has now become a must-use application which anyone can access through the internet. The update was initially launched for the Android and iOS platforms but now the beta version for the Windows platform has also been released.

A majority of youth are happy with the latest update as it is easy on their pockets. But unfortunately the application is not free unlike what many believe. For instance, one minute of a Whatsapp call slashes 0.20MB from the data packet. But since the cost gets camouflaged behind the internet usage of the phone, not many youngsters seem to mind the cost that has crept into their bills.

“I am very fond of this new update; I can easily call my friends even when I’m out of phone balance. It is affordable for me to use as it works on the data pack and the main advantage is that it works well with 2GB data pack too,” shares Abhishek, an engineering student.

Especially for those who have a bad mobile network, Whatsapp calling comes as a boon as they can now make local and international calls by connecting through Wifi. “I prefer making calls through the new feature of Whatsapp when I am at home as it is WiFi enabled and it is the future of calling,” says Amit Kumar, a degree student. Some are although still not completely satisfied with the app and are waiting for improvements.

“It is not that good as Facebook messenger. I usually use it over WiFi or through a normal 2G connection. Also since all my friends are on Whatsapp, it is easy to connect with them. Formerly, it was Facebook and phone text. But now the trend has changed completely,” says Sonali Ganguly, a intermediate student.

The new calling feature of the Whatsapp has enamored the college students and school children alike who are using the Whatsapp calling feature over regular network calls to connect with their friends and family. Ankita Jonnalagedda, a class ten student is all praises for the calling feature as it has made it easier for her to stay in touch with her cousins residing abroad.

“The best part of the calling feature is that there are no network disturbances. I make local and international calls too and hardly know the difference between them. Also, we can speak for a longer time without having to worry about the steep costs,” she adds.
