For candidates aspiring for the civil services in Telangana, widespread knowledge of the Telangana agitation will play a crucial role with one third of the maximum marks of 900 in the TSPSC Group I written tests being devoted to aspects - cultural heritage, history and economy of Telangana besides the events leading to the formation of the state.


All the categories of the government jobs will be extending interviews as a part of all the tests for appointment to state civil service jobs. Earlier the interview process was applicable to candidates appearing for the Group I exam.


These suggestions were made by the Kadiam Srihari Cabinet sub-committee and are to be approved by TS Cabinet. Sources in the Telangana Education Ministry state that the fate of borderline students will be with the TSPSC interview panel with the interview carrying just 100 marks.


The written examination for Group 1 carries 1000 marks and 100 out of the marks is for the interview. Apart from this, a pre-requisite to qualify will be based on the extensive knowledge of Telangana with of 150 marks paper likely to be on the Telangana Movement and the state’s formation.


With three subsections – the paper will have the Idea of Telangana (1948 to 1970), mobilization phase (1970 to 1991) and the formation of TS (1991 to 2014). Two other papers are also to be based party on Telangana state with the second paper on History and Geography mainly focusing on TS.
