Hyderabad: The Andhra University (AU) will be hosting Digital India week from July 20-25, one of the many developments that are proposed to be undertaken in the current academic session. In a wide-ranging conversation with Young Hans, Prof Uma Maheshwar Rao, Registrar, AU, said: “, Andhra University will be implementing Choice Based Credit System as suggested by the University Grants Commission (UGC), from the ensuing academic year in both under-graduate and graduate level”.


Adding on, he said: “Andhra University, right now, has eight integrated non- engineering courses which are of a five- year span. From ensuing academic year the span of courses has been extended to six years and all the students except the final years will be graduating in six - year term”, he informed. AU offers a wide range of academic programs with more career-oriented options.


The major development of this year is the six year integrated engineering course where students can pursue B.Tech and M.tech without an academic gap and counseling process is in progress for this discipline. The University has always been a pioneer in formulating new courses having societal relevance and national manpower needs in mind.


Nuclear Physics, Geo Physics, Social Marine Sciences, Instrumentation Engineering, Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture Bio-chemistry, Prawn & Crab Farming Management, Coastal Aquaculture & Marine Bio-technology and Geo-engineering are the exclusive courses offered by the University.


Courses in Tourism Management, Journalism, Human Resource Management, International Business etc are all of contemporary relevance. The University also has courses in Music, Fine arts, Acting and play direction. AU offers programmes in popular options such as Computer Science, Biotechnology, Commerce and Electronics under self-financing stream.


The M. Tech. Programs in the Engineering College include Radar and Micro wave Engineering, Technology Forecasting, Coastal Harbour Engineering and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. In a recent survey by a popular newsmagazine, AU has been rated second only to Delhi University in 2015.
