Hyderabad: The 6th Edition of the Indian Management Conclave (IMC 2015), organised by MBAUniverse.com in partnership with the Indian School of Business (ISB), commenced on Wednesday at ISB’s Hyderabad campus. This year’s conclave is based on the theme of “Enhancing B-school Competitiveness”. Academicians from top B- Schools and industry executives from India and abroad, including faculty from Harvard Business School, Yale School of Management, Chicago Booth & Darden; IIM; The CUHK Business School; Graduate School of Business, University Sains Malaysia, are participating in the two-day conference.


Prominent industry participants include Dilip Sanghvi (Sun Pharma), Avani Davda (Tata Starbucks), Joel Pannikot (Bloomberg), R S Sodhi (Amul), Sanjeev Gupta (Accenture) and Sridhar Venkat (Akshaya Patra). Ajit Rangnekar, Dean, ISB, Sangeet Chowfla, Global President & Chief Executive Officer, Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), Hemant Kanoria, CMD, Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd and Former Member, Board of Governors, IIM – Calcutta, Amit Agnihotri, Convener, Indian Management Conclave, and Dr Shekhar Chaudhuri, Former Director, IIM Calcutta and Professor, IIM Calcutta inaugurated the Conclave. This was preceded by the gathering paying homage to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India.

“With more than 300 delegates from 100 B-Schools, the IMC 2015 has received a tremendous response. Progressive B-Schools now want to improve their competitiveness and with 20 top speakers, Case-study presentations by top B-schools and many other sessions, the Indian Management Conclave is a platform to help them in this journey,” Amit Agnihotri, Convener, Indian Management Conclave, warmly welcomed the gathering said.


Sharing his thoughts on value of management education can bring, Ajit Rangnekar, Dean, ISB, felt it was time for B School inculcate among their students, what he called the VEIL or a sense of values, a sense for the environment, sensitivity to inequities in society and finally adhering to the law of the land. “Without these we cannot create global competitiveness,” he added.


In his inaugural address, Sangeet Chowfla, Global President & Chief Executive Officer, Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), focused on ‘Graduate Management Education; Big, Global, Diverse’. He spoke about, how “MBA education is still very relevant though it is believed to be otherwise.” He further added, “Though the management education market was expanding but over the last few years it has moved from being purely US centric to including B-Schools from Asia.”


The Guest of Honour, Hemant Kanoria, CMD, Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd. and Former Member, Board of Governors, IIM – Calcutta said, “The professionals from the management schools are not equipped with critical thinking process, which are required to address the challenges faced by different sectors say. He urged the audiences which also included faculty and academics to infuse ‘thinking through’—critical thinking amongst the management students.”


Over the next two days, IMC 2015 will witness several key note speeches, debates and panel discussions, where academicians and industry leaders will come together to deliberate on topics ranging Enhancing Student Engagement & Learning Outcomes to Making Industry-Institute partnerships work to Can Technology Enable Quality Education at Scale?
