Debunking all theories that the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) needs to be demolished, the technical team of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) in its report said that the hospital structure is strong and there is no need to demolish the building.

A special team comprising Divay Gupta, Principal Director, Architectural Heritage division, INTACH Delhi, S P Anchuri, technical advisor to INTACH, P Anuradha Reddy, convenor, INTACH Hyderabad chapter and others visited the hospital on August 3, 2015. The technical team headed by S P Anchuri in the report state that the basic structure of the 95-year-old hospital is strong.

The present state of the hospital is due to lack of maintenance over the years. A member of the team said that in the last two decades, no maintenance was taken up and as a result, the plaster is falling off. The roof though is in good condition. S P Anchuri says, “Every one metre there is a steel section and the spans are quite close.

The jack arch roof is in good condition. The granite walls too are in good condition and are 3 feet in thickness.” The report mentioned that due to improper maintenance on the top floors, water from the bathrooms have seeped into the structure. With repairs, the hospital can easily survive for decades.
