Vijayawada: “Young generation should take up agriculture to introduce modern farming methods with available up to date technology”, said Dr MS Swaminathan at the launch of smart village CSR initiative of Mitsubishi Corporation in Krishna district on Thursday. The smart village was launched by the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Swaminathan asked government to provide income security to the farmers with minimum support price basing on actual production cost. He stressed the need for adopting new methods in agriculture to get nutritious food. “An education programme should be organised for farmers on the importance of cultivation of nutritious food”, the veteran agriculture scientist added.

Three villages Sorlagondi, Nali and Mangalapuram of Avanigadda constituency of Krishna district are being covered under this smart village CSR initiative. He said the smart village concept will yield multiple benefits in rural areas including improvement in basic facilities. He praised the efforts of Japanese company for contributing to the development of Andhra Pradesh.

Swaminathan said good results can be achieved if the government, industrialists and voluntary organisations work together. He informed that Mitsubishi adopted two fishermen villages and one farming community village. “The CSR activity of the company would help farmers to adopt new fishing technology”, he concluded.
