Hyderabad: In an initiative to make education more student-centric, Educomp, an online educational portal, held a seminar on the topic ‘Challenges, Opportunities and Solutions of 21st century schools’ on Friday where principals of more than 60 schools from the twin cities participated.

Allesha Thakur, an eminent educationist, addressed the participants at the event. She talked about the ‘Flip Learning’ approach which enables children to be in- charge and accountable for their own learning via collaborating and sharing in a safe online environment.“Rapid changes in the society, propelled by globalisation and an explosion of information technology, have created an environment where children have access to plethora of devices and tools,” says Allesha Thakur.

“Flipped learning allows them to leverage these new age tools for self learning,” she added. N Purushotam, regional CEO of Educomp also announced the launch of EDAC learning system which is a learner-centred curriculum that makes learning engaging in the classroom.

In EDAC learning system students involve themselves in learning both at school and home through digital learning. Every school, implementing the EDAC learning system, will be given an online community platform in which school, student and parents can communicate with each other through this online application.

Talking about the online app, Purushotam said: “Nowadays kids are very tech savvy and we cannot separate them from technology. So exciting them to make great use of technology will save them from getting into the wrong track.” “The online app consists of all the academic topics clearly illustrated in vibrant colors with 3D illustrations and students can also share the academic topics with each other and challenge each other online to complete quizzes,” he adds.

He claims that EDAC learning system is tested and implemented in more than 56 schools all over country and the academic performance of the students in this learning approach has increased manifold. The EDAC learning system is for all the boards (SSC, CBSC and ICSC).

The EDAC app looks attractive and innovative. However, it is a million-dollar question whether the schoolchildren who are already overburdened with so much work both at school and home, would have be further stressed out with this app. They are already confined to homes after school without any physical activity, sources opined.
