The India–Africa Forum Summit is the official platform for the African-Indian relations. It was first held from April 4 to April 8, 2008 in New Delhi. It was the first such meeting between the Heads of State and India government and 14 countries of Africa chosen by the African Union.

Libya and Although rising oil and food prices were the top concerns for the African and Indian leaders during the summit, deliberations were also held exhaustively on issues like agricultural sector, trade, industry and investment, peace and security, promotion of good governance and civil society apart from information and communication technology.

The second summit was held at the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, with India and 15 African Countries participating. The leaders discussed significant aspects of the India-Africa partnership with the objective of enhancing and widening its ambit for mutual benefit.

New Delhi will be hosting the third summit from October 26 to 30. The five-day summit will commence with official level consultations followed by the Head of States/government-level summit on October 29 with scheduled bilateral meetings the next day. This is likely to Narendra Modi government's biggest diplomatic outreach involving delegates from a large number of African nations.

The summit was originally scheduled for last year but had to be deferred for various reasons. In a significant change, unlike the previous two occasions where the event was restricted to only 10-15 African countries, there will be a larger representation from the Continent this time.
