The three-day NextGen Genomics, Biology, Bioinformatics and Technologies (NGBT) Conference was inaugurated at Hyderabad International Convention Center (HICC) on Thursday.

The first day featured a life sciences job fair in partnership with Monster, India. Young scientists obtained career advice and interacted with prospective employers as part of the fair.

The programme this year has more than 90 talks on topics ranging from medical, plant and animal genomics to structural biology, oncogenic signalling and bioinformatics.

The meeting will encompass 12 key note lectures from luminaries who have made significant contributions to their area of research.

Young scholars will be presenting their work that will be judged for sponsored scholarships and awards sponspored by journals like eLife, PLOS, and Journal of Cell Science.

The conference will further feature exciting developments in genomics technologies, and their applications in life sciences including human, plant and animal biology, drug discovery, clinical trials, and personalised therapy.

Speakers from renowned research institutes from across the globe including Director of Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Ch Mohan Rao, Director for SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF) Dr George Thomas, Conference Chair Dr SEkar Seshagiri and CCMB Group Leader Dr Thagaraj will be present at the event.

Speaking at the inauguration, CEO of MedGenome, one of the sponsors, Sam Santhosh said, “The conference provides a platform to bring academia and industry in genomics and related technologies together.

As a leader in genomics-based diagnostics in India and a pioneer in genomics-based research, we are happy that the NGBT conference has grown to become the largest genomics conference in the country.”

The conference is expected to be an ecosystem for scientists and students to share their work, build new connections and explore collaborations.
