Prof Rammohan Rao, former Dean, Indian School of Business, Hyderabad; former Director, IIM, Bangalore; and Member Board of Management, IFHE, was delivering the fourth NJ Yasaswy Memorial Lecture on ‘Excellence in Management Education: My Experience and Learning’.

“You have achieved national recognition. Now aim for global excellence and accreditation,” Prof Rammohan Rao urged the Vice Chancellor and faculty of the ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education (IFHE).

Addressing the students and faculty members, Prof. Rao explained the parameters that go into the evaluation of an institution for excellence. “The institution has to perform well on all activities like teaching, research, consulting, and service to society to be considered excellent,” he said.

He explained the importance of following the best practices in the areas of governance, faculty, curriculum, students, alumni involvement, and the support staff. Speaking on the difficulty of measuring performance from a multi-dimensional perspective, Prof. Rao highlighted the importance of combining subjective evaluation with quantitative assessment.

Prof. Rao went on to explain the importance of leadership in achieving excellence in institutions. He brought out the differences between leading a start-up institution and an established institution and pointed out that change management is a challenging task for any leader.
