Olympic Gold Quest, the non-profit organisation founded by sports legends Geet Sethi and Prakash Padukone, has announced that it will support the badminton doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa in the run-up to next year\'s Rio Olympics.

"I also believe that OGQ's sports science team will make a difference to their fitness levels.

The emotional support that OGQ provides the athletes will help Jwala and Ashwini completely focus on their training," said Padukone during the announcement on Wednesday. Founded with a mission to help Indian athletes win Olympic gold medals, OGQ supports the training of 75 athletes in eight individual sports.

Saina’s trip to Hong Kong in December 2010 was completely funded by OGQ. She went on to win the Hong Kong Super Series title which raised her to career best ranking of World No 2. OGQ sent P.V. Sindhu along with her personal coach for international tournaments in Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia in 2011

OGQ is a programme of the Foundation for Promotion of Sports and Games, a Not for Profit (Section 25) Company, which is committed to bridging the gap between the best athletes in India and the best athletes in the world thus helping Indian athletes to win Olympic Gold medals. OGQ’s first test was the London 2012 Olympics.

4 out of the 6 Indian medalists were supported by OGQ. Team OGQ comprises 10 Directors Geet Sethi, Prakash Padukone, Viswanathan Anand, Leander Paes,Rakesh Khanna, Shitin Desai, R Ramaraj, Niraj Bajaj,Neeraj Bharadwaj and Deepika Padukone, and CEO Viren Rasquinha. Olympic Gold Quest has chalked out plans to extend its support to 40 athletes by this year-end and help them train for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, according to its chief executive officer Viren Rasquinha.

"The other part is the OGQ scholarship programme, a long-term programme, where we are identifying and grooming young athletes for the 2020 and 2024 Olympics. Both are equally important keeping in mind our short-term and long-term goals," said Rasquinha, according to NDTV.

OGQ provides support to participate in International/ Domestic Tournaments that are not funded by the Sports Ministry or SAI or the concerned National Sports Federation. This includes travel, accommodation, food, travel insurance, visa fees and any other expenses that may occur. In some cases OGQ will also send their personal coach and/or physiotherapist and/or mental trainer along with them.
