Addressing the students, Dr Saraswat said that the students must concentrate on design and Make in India, rather than just make in India. He enlightened the students of ICFAI University about various challenges faced in the process of innovating and prospects of Innovation to achieve sustainable growth.

“We have to restrict our consumption levels and eliminate waste to balance the rapid growth against the limited resources. At the same time we have to be prepared to meet the needs of the rising challenges of the future,” he opined.

Dr Saraswat explained that in spite of its rich heritage of innovations, India is currently ranked 76th among the 143 countries as per the survey conducted by the Global Innovation Index. This can only be changed by constantly upgrading to the latest technology and innovating new things which can be useful for the nation at large.

“Abstract research is of no use and it should be completely avoided,” he said. He urged the students to Think big…. and Think creatively to outperform the competitors.
