Established with a vision to bring about innovation in higher education and learning in emerging areas of the knowledge society, the not-for-profit NIIT University (NU) today hosted the 7th Annual Lecture by Dr Karan Singh, Chairperson NIIT University and Hon’ble Member of Parliament. Dr Singh spoke on ‘Interfaith Movement: The confluence of Civilizations’, at the annual event held in NU campus, Neemrana.

Dr. Karan Singh also felicitated Water Man of India, Mr Rajendra Singh, recipient of the “Nobel Prize for Water – The Stockholm Water Prize”, for having brought water to 1,000 villages in India. He lauded Mr Rajendra Singh for working closely with the local communities in Rajasthan to defeat drought by reviving several rivers and bringing hope to the villages and countless people in the arid state.
On the occasion of the 7th Annual Lecture at NU, scholars congregated to deliberate upon the importance of our tradition and civilization for the all-round development of the present generation. In our quest for future we tend to forget our rich past, hence it is important for higher educational institutions to establish the ‘connect’ to help create holistic human beings who can chart the course of progress in harmony with nature.

The importance of fostering and nurturing the spirit of entrepreneurship was discussed extensively at the Annual Lecture. With a focus on innovation and research-driven approach to education, NU is beginning to emerge as the hot-bed of entrepreneurship. During the day, the board members of NU, recognized and evaluated more than a dozen ideas presented by NU students on entrepreneurship. These include innovative ideas like – a smart network health monitoring tool; a dedicated one stop solution for pet care services; Food tech; My Geo Info and a peer learning site, to name a few.

Recently NU students Shikhil Sharma and Ananda Krishnan of B Tech Computer Science, emerged as winners at the 6th All China University Software Entrepreneurship Competition, held among 300 universities in China, for their unique software product “Astra”, that protects web sites from hackers, real time.

Congratulating the founders and the team on the successful completion of six years of excellence in education Dr Karan Singh, Chairperson NIIT University and Hon’ble Member of Parliament said, “This is indeed a very proud moment for NU, and I congratulate the team at NU for the commendable job of introducing young minds to new vistas of knowledge, and encouraging them to think critically and apply that knowledge to everyday lives. Higher education should have a deep connect with life, our cultural tradition and our environment, and I am delighted that NU has successfully established that in a short period. The green campus of NU is an instance of sustainable model of development and I am confident that our students will spread this awareness, across the world.”
Speaking on the occasion Water man of India, Mr Rajendra Singh, recipient of the “Nobel Prize for Water – The Stockholm Water Prize” said, “Our generation has taken Mother Nature for granted and we are already paying dearly for it. It is time that we take decisive measures to minimize damage to the environment and live in harmony with nature. I am delighted that NU has taken a lead by establishing a Green Campus, that retains the natural lay of the land and imaginatively uses technologies like earth-air tunnels, rain water harvesting facilities and water recycling systems to minimize consumption of natural resources and become self sufficient.”

“What is even more commendable is that NU has worked with locals to contain illegal mining and adopted nearby land for tree-planting. The enthusiastic participation of the students of the University to convert the neighbouring barren ‘Kali Pahari’ to fertile ‘Hari-Pahari’ gives me hope that given the right direction today’s generation is ready for development in harmony with nature. In NU, I see a reflection of my beliefs on sustainable development and commit myself towards further shaping its growth, as a Member of the Advisory Board of NU.”
