NETAP proposes to appoint 2 lakh apprentices every year for the next 10 years. At peak capacity, it will be the world’s largest apprenticeship programme.

An MoU has been signed between the Directorate General of Training, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Team Lease Skill University (TLSU). TLSU through the NETAP (National Employability Through Apprenticeship Programme) would facilitate engagement of 5 lakh apprentices over a period of 3 years on voluntary basis in the country up to March 2018, according to the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

NETAP is a public-private Partnership of TeamLease Skills University, CII, and NSDC under the National Employability Enhancement Mission of the Ministry of HRD (AICTE). It will help unemployed youth build skills through “Learning by doing and Learning while earning” along with providing them with access to practical skills. Youth unemployability is a growing challenge because 10 lakh youth will enter the labour force every month for the next 20 years.

A NETAP apprenticeship qualifies for credit towards certificates/diplomas/degrees offered online by Teamlease Skills University (TLSU). Objective of NEEM is to offer on the job practical training to enhance the employability of a person. Team Lease Skills University has been appointed as NEEM agent by AICTE to roll out apprenticeship as per the guidelines set under the notification.

NETAP empowers the organizations to appoint trainees in any function under any trade for a minimum period of 3 months to maximum of 24 months depending on the need of the training.

Any Indian citizen with minimum age of 18 years up to 35 years can be appointed as NEEM trainee/ apprentice. In order to become a NEEM trainee, a candidate should be either pursuing a diploma/ degree course or completed a diploma/ degree course or discontinued studies of diploma/degree course.

Apart from offering on the job training to the candidates, NETAP also offers 200 hours of cloud training to all registered trainees which further enhances the probability of being employable. Cloud training is offered under three modules – English language, Computer skills and soft skills.

India has only 3 lakh apprentices (Germany has 3 million, Japan has 10 million, and China has 20 million). India has only 25,000 employers appointing apprentices. UK has 2 lakh and one state of Australia (Queensland) has 26,000.
