Institute of Management Technology, Hyderabad organized a Round Table Conference on Converging Public Policy and Business Management: Imperatives and Challenges today at its campus. IMT Hyderabad believes in the overall development of its students by making them responsible and innovative leaders with a global mindset and a holistic perspective. The institute aims to train knowledgeable, principled, skilled, and innovative leaders and seek to create responsible citizens who understand and implement sustainable business initiatives.
For an aspiring manager to succeed in the business world, a comprehensive knowledge about the macro-economic policies that affect the industry is required. This round table conference was organized to meet this objective and educate the student fraternity about government policies and framework and how they would impact their decision making skills.
The panellists include Dr. P. K. Mohanty, I.A.S (retired), former Chief Secretary, Government of Andhra Pradesh; Dr. K. Lakshminarayana, I.A.S (retired), Director, Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation; Shri. Mohammed Abid, I.A.S, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Hyderabad; Dr. M. Gopinath Reddy, Head, Division for Sustainable Development Studies, CESS, Hyderabad; Mr. Chirantan Chatterjee, Director, Virtusa, Hyderabad; Mr. Tanmay Das, Director, KSK Energy Ventures, Hyderabad; Dr. Alok Mishra, University of Hyderabad; Dr. Harish Srivastava, Head, Planning and Communication, CSR wing, Ramky Group.
The panellists discussed regarding the importance of being aware of the various public policies and the regulatory framework issued by the government. They emphasized on the correlation between the policies and the decisions made at the managerial level of any business organization. Any policy that is initiated by the GoI can be successful if various institutions adopt and make business related decisions accordingly. The failure of SEZ in India while it was a huge success in China is an example of the same. The panellists encouraged the students to not only work on maximization of wealth creation but also to be socially responsible by understanding the expectations of society from the corporate world. They inspired students to learn different languages, read books to expand their knowledge. The principles and ideas written down in the constitution of India and the preamble are extremely relevant for the budding managers and the panellists asked the students to gain awareness regarding the same.
They concluded by reinstating the significance of the applications of policies and law in the business environment. They provided insights on various issues by citing examples from their experience which helped the students understand the practical implications. Business should aim to work towards the welfare of the society rather than focusing on only gaining profits. The panelists believe that there exists skewness between the state and business in India and that their integration will benefit the economy as a whole.
