“Introduced for the first time in India, this certificate course in Art and Critical Appreciation is about to commence from January 9, 2016. The first batch of 28 students, which comprised a senior citizen too, was rolled out six months ago, having received a great response.

Enthused by this, JNAFAU has announced the second batch for art lovers, poets and art journalists” said Priti Samyukta, Asst. Professor, Head, Department of Painting of the university.

The main thrust of the course is to be considered useful for candidates who could not undergo academic/ institutional training in art but are interested in knowing about art and taking it up as a serious enterprise.

The course structure is designed in such a way that it would facilitate students not only to understand the historical and critical perspective of visual arts but also learn creative art through practical orientation under the experienced artist teachers.

Thus, this course will be an exploration of visual art forms and their cultural connections for the student with little experience in the visual arts. It includes a brief study of art history and in depth analysis of the elements, media and methods used in creative processes and shaping of thoughts.

In this course, students will learn how to develop their creative sensibilities both in making and reading of artwork as they participate in larger arena of art.

The syllabus of the course, split into both practicals and theory sessions contain subjects like Drawing, Painting , Pictorial Composition , Printmaking Techniques ,Mural Design ( practicals) and Survey of Indian Art & Western art, Introduction of Philosophy of Art (Indian & Western) , Introduction to Contemporary Critical Theories as the theory portion.

Haritha Reddy, a student of the first batch said she had a great experience with the course and had fun learning it. She also said that it is a easy way to learn the entire 3 years syllabus in just 3 months.

A guest lecturer for the first batch, Latif, a senior artist who was teaching oil painting to the students during the course said the students showed a lot of interest during the sessions.
