New Delhi: The enrolment of students in the government elementary schools decreased marginally during 2013-14 and increased in the private schools, Lok Sabha was today told. This was stated by Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani in response to a written question.

"As per Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE), percentage of enrolment of students in government management elementary schools in the country has marginally decreased from 65.01 per cent in 2011-12 to 61.32 per cent in 2013-14 whereas in private management elementary schools, it has increased from 32.59 pc to 35.81 pc during the corresponding period," she said.

"Similarly, at higher education level, in government sector it has marginally decreased from 49.4 pc in 2011-12 to 45.5 pc in 2013-14, whereas in case of private sector it has increased from 50.6 pc to 54.5 pc," she said. Irani also said, "The

enrolment of students in elementary, secondary and higher secondary government schools was 13,41,53,424 and 14,40,81,075 in 2013-14 and 2014-15 respectively. "The enrolment in these classes in private schools was 7,00,36,309 and 8,46,42,241 during the same periods," she added.
