Manjul BhargavaMysuru: Stating that a lot of good talent in India just gets into engineering, renowned Indian-American mathematician Manjul Bhargava said more young people should take up science.

"We have amazing talents in science, but they go to engineering. More young people should take up science and try to innovate things," Bhargava said.

"Now so many new institutes of science are coming up, so lots of opportunities are there for youngsters who take up science in India," he was quoted as saying.

Bhargava, who won the Fields Medal in 2014, popularly known as the Mathematics Nobel, is in Mysuru to participate in the 103rd Indian Science Congress.

Sharing similar opinion in a lecture at the ongoing Indian Science Congress, eminent scientist CNR Rao said there are too many "normal people" working in the field of technology and making lots of money, whereas the country needs "crazy guys" who have passion for science.

Expressing happiness about a large number of youngsters showing interest in science in India, Nobel laureate John B Gaurdon said "Science gives very substantial opportunities for youngsters, even helps them financially." Supporting Gaurdon’s remarks another Nobel laureate Prof David J Gross said "Discover India and then make in India."
