Caricature is a picture, description, imitation of another person, etc. with which certain striking characteristics are exaggerated in order to evoke a comic effect, to create a grotesque effect.

The objective of caricature is to amuse the reader, to ridicule the subject of the caricature. Unlike a portrait of someone or something, caricature can highlight certain characteristics that could be comical, ridiculing.

It is not uncommon to find caricatures of people in public life in the newspapers and magazines. The person who draws caricatures is a caricaturist.

Caricature also functions as a verb: drawing, making or giving a caricature of someone or something. Cartoon is an amusing drawing in a newspaper or magazine.

Cartoon is different from caricature in the sense that the former amuses the reader with the drawing that comments satirically on current events; cartoons can be a sequence of drawings that tell a story.
