Institute Ltd, (http://www.bsebti.com/) a wholly owned subsidiary of BSE – World’s fastest stock Exchange, successfully conducted its 4th annual national level contest, Stock Torero at the International Conventional Hall of the Bombay Stock exchange. The contest saw participation from 21 teams including prominent institutes like IIT Bombay, NMIMS, Welingkar’s Institute of Management Development and S.P Jain Institute of Management.

Stock Torero is a one day national level financial contest which seeks to foster the stock trading prowess of the aspiring students. The event uses the real stock exchange software and creates a simulated environment for stock trading.

Mr. Ambarish Datta, MD & CEO, BSE Institute said “We have been conducting Stock Torero for the past 3 years and have seen tremendous response from the institutes across India. This platform gives the students a feel of what stock trading is all about, by competing in a simulated environment. The environment mimics the actual stock market with all complexity and volatility. This is done through the use of the actual exchange software which is used for trading. The vigor and excitement felt by the students during this contest is next to real. It also gives the students a feel of investing in financial markets and helps them mature as market professionals faster.”

S.P Jain Institute of Management and Research secured the first prize while Russel Square International College and Welingkar’s, Bangalore being the first and second runners up. Each team was given initial capital and the team with the maximum profit was crowned as the winner at the end of the Trading day.

All Participants were felicitated by the MD & CEO of BSE, Mr. Ashishkumar Chauhan. While addressing the participants Mr. Chauhan drew from his vast experience and gave valuable inputs on the financial markets. Mr. Chauhan encouraged students to invest their own money in the stock markets, however small the amount maybe. He said, “It would help the students learn better when their own money was at stake”.

The contest entirely replicates real trading in the financial markets. This includes brokers, jobbers, bankers, and a media team that feeds mock news affecting the demand and supply of stocks. Students need to display skills in stock picking, portfolio management, economics, technical, charts, fundamentals, behavioral finance to compete well in the contest.
