​Hyderabad: There are limited opportunities in India for youth to engage with Policy and Parliament. In 2010, PRS Legislative Research started a fellowship for young Indians to work with and be mentored by Members of Parliament.

The Legislative Assistants to Members of Parliament (LAMP) Fellowship started with 12 fellows in its first year. The Fellowship is now in its 5th year and has 50 fellows working with MPs across political parties and from both houses of Parliament.

Alumni of the fellowship currently work with political parties, policy think tanks, civil society organisations, corporate sector etc. The 11-months fellowship is based in Delhi and gives fellows an opportunity to work as research assistants in MPs Parliamentary office.

Fellows also get to engage with policy makers and experts from diverse sectors through participation in workshops on policy and development issues. Indian youth below the age of 25 years, having a bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply for the fellowship.

Previous LAMP fellows have been from diverse educational and professional backgrounds. In the past, fellows had degrees across disciplines from both domestic and foreign universities.
