Hyderabad: IcfaiTech, Faculty of Science & Technology of the ICFAI University, Hyderabad organised the inaugural event of the two-day National Conference on Recent Advancement in Electronics (NCRAE) on Friday at its campus in Hyderabad.

Dr VS Rao, Director, BITS-Pilani Hyderabad campus, was the chief guest at the event. He stressed on the power of electronics in the future and its impact on next generation. “The reason silicon has its advantage is due to its abundance. People in the initial stage thought the world of semi-conductor would be Germanium, but Silicon with its vast abundance and easy availability took the lead.”

Explaining the importance of Silicon Dr Rao said, “Another reason why silicon became dominant is that it is very easy to create a high quality thin insulator on the surface of a silicon chip, because you can just put silicon in a hot furnace with oxygen and it will form a thin film of silicon dioxide which performs as an excellent insulator which gave it a huge advantage when MOSFETs were first created.”

Prof J Mahender Reddy, Vice Chancellor of ICFAI University in his presidential address spoke about advancements in electronics and communication technologies. He said “The conference aims at creating a learning platform to exchange knowledge and learning experiences between academia and industry engaged in the study of electronic devices and instrumentation, power electronics and communication technologies”.
