ICFAI Business School holds Banking Research Conference

Hyderabad: ICFAI Business School (IBS), a constituent of ICFAI University, hosted the 1st Banking Research Conference, 2016 in collaboration with the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics on January 29-30, 2016, at ICFAI University Campus in Hyderabad.

Inaugurating the conference, the chief guest SS Mundra, Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India lauded the efforts of IBS-Hyderabad in organising the first ever banking research conference in order to generate interest among the practitioners, researchers, and academics about the importance of banking and its key role in economic growth.

He called upon the researchers to explore research issues in the areas of agri-credit, credit to MSMEs and corporate leverage. “RBI is also engaged in research areas such as asset quality, capital adequacy, risk management and other related areas of banking,” he said. Mundra called for analysing how formal finance has impacted on productivity in agriculture sector. MSMEs that account for 45 per cent of GDP and 40 per cent of exports need to be studied in terms of effectiveness of formal credit. “Organising such conferences on a regular basis will help to make amends to the regulatory authorities,” he added.

Mundra highlighted the need for identifying and segregating the Ponzi borrowers as they are found to adversely affect the financial health of the lending institutions. Prof Mahender Reddy, the Vice Chancellor of IFHE University in his address, emphasized the key role of the banking sector to achieve India’s growth potential.
