The Civil Engineering Branch of VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology organised  a two day National Conference on  “ Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Reconstruction of Sustainable Society” and it was inaugurated by the chief guest and former Vice-Chairman of National Disaster Management Authority, Marri Sashidhar Reddy on Thursday.

Hyderabad: The Civil Engineering Branch of VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology organised a two day National Conference on “ Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Reconstruction of Sustainable Society” and it was inaugurated by the chief guest and former Vice-Chairman of National Disaster Management Authority, Marri Sashidhar Reddy on Thursday.

In his inaugural address, Reddy gave a detailed picture of various disasters. He narrated the problems faced by the disaster management teams such as the obstacles created by people and media without knowing the ground realities and gravity of the disaster.

No timely information from the concerned departments, failure of radar warning system etc., will be attributed in an unjustified manner to disaster management teams, he said. He also told that one dollar spent for mitigation before disaster would save spending of 50-60 dollars in rehabilitation. The government should take note of it, he said.

The General Secretary of Vignana Jyothi, B Sarat Gopal gave a brief note on objective and need of the symposium and thanked various people of eminence taking part in the conference. He also gave an account of Hud Hud disaster and advised all the faculty and participants to interact with the experts and actively participate in the technical session. He wished the conference to be fruitful and bring out deliberations that would fulfill the objective of the conference.
