As a noun, custom refers to doing things or behaving in a manner that has been long established in the society (It is a custom in India to look after elderly parents, and it is a custom of the eldest son to look after his parents).

Traditionalists get furious when traditions or customs are violated but there are no laws to practice traditions unless enshrined in the Constitution or the rule book of the country like in the Middle East.
