The UK Tier 1 (post-study work) visa was abolished by the UK government in 2012. The UK Tier 1 (post-study work) visa was abolished by the UK government in 2012. The general feeling in the ministry and the higher education circles was that this would be a temporary measure and things would change. With 2016, showing no changes and the number of admissions to UK universities taking a hit because of this abolition, Scottish universities are crying foul!

Quoting Scotland’s Minister for Europe, Humza Yousaf – “I am deeply disappointed and angered that the UK government has ruled out a return of the visa. Scotland has different immigration needs to the rest of the UK.”

With a number of popular universities in Scotland like the University of Dundee, University of Glasgow and University of Edinburgh heavily dependent on international student admissions and the money they bring in; the minister’s comment makes perfect sense!
Sadly with the UK government clearly not interested in revoking the abolition of the post-study work visas, universities in countries like the USA, Germany, New Zealand, Singapore and the Netherlands will benefit the most. Countries like Switzerland, Austria, Sweden and Norway are also attracting international students from within the European Union and Asia. So if you are an Indian student looking to study in the UK with an ambition to find work and settle there, you may wish to re-examine your priorities!
