8 finalists win trip to visit art galleries across Europe

Kolkata: Camel Art Foundation (CAF) - the philanthropic wing of Kokuyo Camlin announced the winners of this year’s CAF Annual Art contest at a glittering ceremony at ICCR, Ho Chi Minh Sarani today.

The function was graced by eminent artistWasimR. Kapoor, who was the Chief Guest. Noted actor, director and nature photographer, SabyasachiChakrabarty was the Guest of Honor. There was also a special guest to grace the event, very popular art critic – Shankar Bhattacharya.

There was also an exhibition showcasing the paintings of those who qualified for the final round. The paintings of over 100 artists across the country including artists from West Bengal were on exhibit. Entry to the award function and exhibition was open to the public and saw citizens attending in large numbers and cheering the winners.

Speaking on the occasion, Saumitra Prasad, Chief Marketing Officer, Kokuyo Camlin Ltd, said, “It’s been truly a great experience to host this year’s CAF event in Kolkota - a place well-known for being the bastion of art and artists. Camel Art Foundation has truly been a pioneer and has a long rich legacy especially created to encourage budding artists across the country to showcase their art and talent. We are glad with the response we received this year and look forward to the lucky eight winners that will travel across Europe to visit art galleries and museums there.”

The four professional category winners were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 1 lakh each, while, in the student category, one winner and two best entries in each medium won cash prizes worth Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 21,000 respectively.

All the lucky eight winners get an opportunity to visit art galleries and museums in Europe – Paris, Rome, Florence and Venice. The winners will leave for a ten-day all expenses paid trip in July 2016. An online catalogue of prize winning and exhibited entries will also be launched.

The CAF contest was open to all professional artists, students, amateurs and hobbyists. The online contest was launched in June 2015 and invited students as well as professionals to send their works in any of the four mediums - Oil, Acrylic, Water and Drawing & Pastels. The first judging round was based on the images. After shortlisting, National judging was done with the artists’ actual works.

The 4 member national jury consisted of eminent artists - Partha Bhattacharya from Kolkata, LaxmanAelay from Hyderabad, Samdar Singh Khangarot from Jaipur, and MadhavImartey from Mumbai. The next edition of the CAF contest will be held in Mumbai.
