Hyderabad: University College of Women, Koti organised a Consumer Fest to mark the ‘World Consumer Rights Day’. Though World Consumer Rights Day falls on March 15, the college pre-poned it given the commencement of UG exams which are to be commenced from end of the month.

The programme started with consumer anthem which was designed and directed by Prof. K Mythili. Prof. M Jaya Surya, coordinator of consumer club spoke about the activities of the club which was inaugurated in campus last year. Addressing the students, Rajam Ganesan, Secretary, Consumer Care Centre said, “Consumer education empowers you.

With this knowledge you will be able to fight the world.” “Be critical, take action individually or collectively, realize social responsibility, realise ecological responsibility. If we follow this, we don’t need consumer courts,” she added. Prof. Manjulatha, chief guest and Principal of City College in her address urged consumers to be careful while choosing products and noted that, “Except for mother’s love everything is adulterated.

When you come across ‘terms and conditions apply’ in the smallest possible fonts try to find what those T&C are? When you find heavy discounts try to know, ‘why is the world going out of its way to help you?’ It’s your money. Be tough and smart with it.”
