The State government on Thursday retracted its decision to commence the 2016-2017 school academic year from March 21 and instead decided to allow it to start in the second week of June. The decision comes in the wake of a case regarding supply of sale component textbooks to private schools is pending in the High Court.

Hyderabad: The State government on Thursday retracted its decision to commence the 2016-2017 school academic year from March 21 and instead decided to allow it to start in the second week of June. The decision comes in the wake of a case regarding supply of sale component textbooks to private schools is pending in the High Court.

The Telangana State Directorate of School Education, in a statement, said, “Since the supply of textbooks for the sale component to private school managements has been delayed due to litigation amongst the printers, it is decided to commence the academic year 2016-17 in the mid of June 2016, as was being done in the previous years.”

It may be mentioned here that on the lines of Central Board of Secondary Education academic calendar, the directorate changed its calendar and issued circulars to complete the academic year 2015-16 by March 15 and start the next academic year from March 21. It decided to conduct classes till April 23 and then break for summer vacation till June midweek.
