Hyderabad: The blossoming of flowers, the rows of sweet smelling jasmines, the bunches of fresh and pungent smelling mangoes, rangoli decorated courtyards, thresholds with rows of mango leaves and marigolds formed the perfect back drop for a new start of the year or “Ugadi” as was presented by the students of Sister Nivedita School (SNS).

‘Ugadi’ made its presence felt with the soaring up of spirits and a surge of happiness on the faces of out lookers. The show began with an invocation to Lord Ganesha for his blessings, followed by a foot tapping dance by a levy of girls. A skit followed wherein, a grandmother explains the importance of the various rituals on Ugadi.

The making of ‘Pachadi’ or a concotion with six tastes symbolises the varied experiences that man faces in life. The next important ritual is ‘Panchanga Sravanam’ or a detailed explanation of the new almanac and its effect. It was presented realistically by the young niveditans. Greetings and wishes for a new year ahead, marked the end of the show.
