Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Infosys has announced that it has provided Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Delhi a 3 year corpus grant of Rs 24 crore. Pravin Rao, COO and a trustee of the Infosys Foundation, inaugurated Infosys Center for Artificial Intelligence at its campus in Okhla.

Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Infosys has announced that it has provided Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Delhi a 3 year corpus grant of Rs 24 crore. Pravin Rao, COO and a trustee of the Infosys Foundation, inaugurated Infosys Center for Artificial Intelligence at its campus in Okhla.

The center will be initially headed by Srikanth Saripalli, an expert in Robotics and UAVs, who is spending his Sabbatical at IIIT-Delhi.

The center will facilitate work on both fundamental and applied aspects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and will work in many areas like Robotics, Machine learning, Computer Vision, AI for Software Systems, large-scale Data Analytics, etc.

Several faculty members of IIIT-Delhi will be associated with the center, and research will be carried out with the assistance of PhD scholars, post-docs, other students and visiting researchers.

Research will occur on real-time data, to develop a deeper understanding of AI for societal benefits. This will ensure a better application of AI in education and related areas. The Infosys Center for Artificial Intelligence will start a specialized M.Tech course also.

IIIT-Delhi will publish research papers, develop tools, and conduct faculty and research development programs in Artificial Intelligence and robotics.

"As scientific advancement takes this nation forward, we must remember that the backbone of such achievements is research. Research programs require long investments of time and effort. The objective of our Center is to facilitate research in artificial intelligence that will greatly develop our society further. The team, led by Dr. Saripalli comprises some of the most skilled research experts and together we will endeavor to facilitate creative exchange of ideas in collaboration with IIIT Delhi and the government. We will also provide training opportunities for students and teachers in AI and robotics," Sudha Murty, Chairperson, Infosys Foundation said in a release.
