Wockhardt Foundation, a not-for-profit organization engaged in social service and human welfare activities, has been awarded with ‘Champion of WSIS Prize 2016’ for E-learning programme that concluded in Geneva recently.

Mumbai: Wockhardt Foundation, a not-for-profit organization engaged in social service and human welfare activities, has been awarded with ‘Champion of WSIS Prize 2016’ for E-learning programme that concluded in Geneva recently. Wockhardt Foundation’s project “E-Learning” was among the top five most voted at World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) forum. Wockhardt Foundation operates 186 E-learning centres, providing smart education to 1.14 lakh unprivileged children.

The WSIS Forum 2016 represents the annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community. Information & communication technology (ICT) Applications: E-learning category winners were from India, Bangladesh, Mexico, Saudi Arabia & United Arab Emirates. Interestingly, Wockhardt Foundation was the only one from India to make its mark in the E-learning category.

The selection process for the award was based on the project’s generated impact on the community, and elaboration on the linkages with the Sustainable Development Goals. Out of the other development goals defined by the organization, Wockhardt Foundation claim to win the award were on two specific defined goals 1) To Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all 2) Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Wockhardt Foundation has taken an easy and interesting concept a step forward by making it accessible to the unprivileged children through E-Learning. This programme has not only made things uncomplicated for these kids but has also developed increased interest for students in studies thus increasing the attendance in schools.

Thrilled with the appreciation, Dr. Huz (Dr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala), CEO & Trustee, Wockhardt Foundation said, “Every child has a right to education and should not be deprived of it due to any financial condition. We at Wockhardt Foundation are committed to make learning interesting thereby making the entire education process easy and accessible through E-learning. This has not only increased the attendance in schools but has also encouraged students to study diligently. I am thankful to the WSIS organizers for the award. We shall continue to do our best.”
