The final year students of Lords Institute of Engineering and Technology have once again proven that their college is the hub of innovation. An ergonomically sound go-kart was made which gives maximum comfort to the driver, with being capable of hitting as much as 65 Kmph.

The light weight and the effectiveness of the steering wheel enables the Go-Kart to make sharp and quick turn. G.I hollow pipes and a 205CC generator engine were used for this Go-Kart. The go-kart was designed and analyzed using the FEA packages and the building work started soon after it was found to be safe under Ansys.

According to them it was not an easy task to do. They experimented with various engines like Honda Activa and Access but were unable to get the speed they wished for as the weight of the Kart was more because of its frame. The results obtained with a generator engine were overwhelming so they went ahead and used it.

Zaid Alam Khan, Syed Abdul Mujeeb, Mudassir Ahmed, Syed Najeeb Ahmed, Uzzam Mohiuddin, Zulfequar Siddiqui, Mohd. Zubair, Shariq Khan, Syed Hafeez, Mohd. Faseeh and Syed Aijaz constitute the 11 member team who made this possible. “The selection of power transmission was a tedious task but we selected a chain drive with centrifugal clutch with the help of our H.O.D and R&D Director who helped us at every point” recalls Zaid A Khan.

The kart uses two disk brakes for better safety. Ackermann Steering system is used in the kart unlike Bogie steering gear mechanism and “Rack and Pinion steering system” which are commonly used. We intend to take this high functioning go-kart to national events like Elite go-kart racing in Bhopal.” recalls Syed A Najeeb.

Now we intend to take this idea forward and work upon providing disk brakes to the front wheels.
