Mumbai: IIT Bombay will host its annual Monsoon Run at its campus in Powai on Sunday, August 28, 2016. This will also be the first edition of ‘Run for Your Campus’ to be held in association with Chapter 3. This is India’s first public cross-campus run. It aims to bring together the entire ecosystem of alumni, faculty and students of various campuses and institutes to promote interaction and instil a sense of nostalgia.

The Monsoon Run comprises two categories: a 5 kms walk and 11 kms run. It is open to individuals and corporates. The 11 kms run is a timed event while the 5 kms walk is more casual.

The run will also see the use of EquiRun, a remarkable and distinctive grading system developed by IIT Bombay alumnus Madhur Kotharay. EquiRun uses the iRace grading system and offers exactly equal chance of winning to every race participant, immaterial of the participant’s gender, age, height, weight, race distance and contour. Using a mathematical model, iRace grading system takes all factors into account to reproduce a competitive racer’s ability and pits his/ her performance against it. This not only helps in making the race more competitive and interesting after removing any bias but also facilitates runners from all over the globe running simultaneously to generate a tally to know who is the fastest.

The event offers participants a chance to run through the scenic campus of IIT Bombay. Running through scenic hills, lush greenery and the picturesque lakeside will make this fitness-centric experience memorable. It is the only time when the gates of IIT B are open for people from outside the campus to visit and cherish its beauty. Interestingly, actor Sidharth Malhotra will be accompanying the runners in this IIT Bombay Monsoon Run.

Prof Soumyo Mukherjee, Dean (Student Affairs), IIT Bombay said, “IIT Bombay is very happy to invite people to run for their campus run. We look forward to welcoming entrepreneurs, alumni and their families and all fitness enthusiasts. Our picturesque campus during monsoon will make for an enjoyable experience.” The event will see participation from India’s top premier campuses like IIT Madras, IIM Bangalore, IIM Indore, NITIE and many others from Mumbai.

Speaking about the event, Ashish Bhushan, CEO of Chapter 3 said, “Run For Your Campus provides a platform for the alumni of an institute to meet its present students, exchange ideas and thoughts and instil a feeling of giving back.”

The event is open to public. Participants can register themselves at http://www.iitbmonsoonrun.com/index.php. The last date for registration is August 21st, 2016.
