Gurgaon: To enable each child to maximize his/her achievement, an inter-school Multiple Intelligence (MI-me) event, exclusively for Nursery and Kindergarten children, was organized here at Suncity World School premises on Tuesday.

Altogether 282 children from more than 16 top schools, including Manav Rachna International School sector 51 and 46, DPS sector 45, Paras World School, Ryan Global School, Lotus Valley International School, The Ardee World School, Blue Bells Public School and American Montessori Public School took part in as many as 11 different competitions in the ‘MI-me’ event, designed by Suncity World School in sync with Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligence. Howard Gardner is an American developmental psychologist and Professor of Cognition and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education at Harvard University. Gardner opposes the idea of labeling learners to a specific intelligence.

“As Gardner believes that it is not how smart you are, it is how you are smart. He derived every individual possesses a unique blend of all the intelligences and should not be judged on one modality of learning. He articulated eight criteria for a behavior to be considered intelligence rather than seeing intelligence as dominated by a single general ability, said Suncity World School Principal Rupa Chakravarty, adding, “These eight abilities for Nursery and KG level students were - musical–rhythmic, visual–spatial, verbal–linguistic, logical–mathematical, bodily–kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic.”

There was an exclusive category MI-me Champion of the day where in one child from each school (one nursery and one Kindergarten) participated in all the competitions and showcased a glimpse of his/her multi talents. Rudra Arora from Manav Rachna International School became the MI – me Champion from nursery and Vanshika Arora from DAV Public School became MI me champion from kindergarten category.

The judgment of all the competitions had been done by guest judges who were masters and experienced in the field of Arts, music, sports etc.
